To improve the reading environment and address long-standing leakage issues, the Main Library will undergo building-wide waterproofing repairs starting April 30, 2026.
This project includes the complete replacement of the typhoon-damaged rooftop skylights and the reinforcement of waterproof structures in specific seepage areas.
Construction Information
- Project Duration: Scheduled from April 30 to August 31 (areas will reopen earlier if the work is completed ahead of schedule).
- Key Work Areas: External building waterproofing, including the rooftop/penthouse skylights, the 5th-floor south terrace, and the 2nd-floor northwest office terrace.
- Affected Areas:
- Facility Closures: 5th-floor Group Study Rooms (527 & 534) and south-side window seating will be closed from April 15 to August 31.
- Safety Measures: The fire shutters in the 4th-floor atrium will be closed during construction. Please follow the posted signs for detours.
- Other Reminders:
- The exact schedule for high-noise work will be announced separately.
- Earplugs are provided at the 1st-floor Self-Service Area and 5th-floor Elevator Lobby (limited supply). Readers are welcome to take them as needed.
Due to the extensive area requiring repair and our commitment to minimizing disruption to our readers, the library's waterproofing project will be conducted in a staged approach. Phase I prioritizes the replacement of typhoon-damaged skylights and the repair of critical external seepage points. Please be advised that minor leaks may still occur in areas not included in this initial phase. We will implement preemptive measures to manage any potential leaks and schedule interior wall and ceiling restoration as soon as possible.
