The purpose of service

Due to access restrictions governed by resource purchase agreements, the service is restricted to the use of the National Cheng Kung University faculty, researchers, students, staff, research assistants, and other authorized users. Users must setup connections prior to accessing online library resources, as well as use faculty/student/staff ID number and password for authorization verification.User is responsible for the care of his/her own user account and password for off-campus access, which must be used legally. If materials are used illegally, user may face legal consequences and loose his/her library privileges.

IE Browser Setting
  • Local Area Network (LAN) connection

    • Step 1: Select【Tools】→【Internet Options】→ Select【Connections】tab. → Click [LAN settings]
    • Step 2: Under Proxy serve → Mark【Use a proxy server ... 】→ Input Proxy server address: rpa.lib.ncku.edu.tw OR proxy.lib.ncku.edu.twPort:3128 → Click [OK]
    • Step 3: Click [Refresh] on the Standard Buttons toolbar → When window is pop up, input User Name and Password → Click [OK]
  • Dial-up through modem / ADSL modem connection:

    • Step 1: Select【Tools】→【Internet Options】→ Select【Connections】tab. → Under Dial-up ... settings →Mark Dial-up & Virtual Private Network settings→ Click [Settings]
    • Step 2: Under Proxy serve → Mark【Use a proxy server ... 】→ Input Proxy server address: rpa.lib.ncku.edu.tw OR proxy.lib.ncku.edu.twPort:3128 → Click [OK]
    • Step 3: Click [Refresh] on the Standard Buttons toolbar →When window is pop up, input User Name and Password → Click [OK]
Netscape Browser Setting
  • Step 1: Select Edit, Select Preferences → Click on the "+" to the left of the Advanced option then click on Proxies → Mark the Manual proxy configuration option → Click [View]
  • Step 2: Input HTTP Proxy : rpa.lib.ncku.edu.tw OR proxy.lib.ncku.edu.twPort:3128 → Click [OK]
  • Step 3: Click [Reload] on the Navigation toolbar → When a window is pop up, input User Name and Password → Click [OK]

      After completing setup, open a new window of the internet browser and a pop-up will appear. See below:

    • Netscape users will be given the following box:
    • Internet Explorer users will be given the following box:
    • Type in user faculty/student/staff ID number and library password, and wait for verification. Once verified, user can begin accessing the electronic resources from outside of campus.

Firefox Browser Setting
  • Step 1: Select Tools, Select Options, and then Select Advanced→ Click Network →Click [Setting] in the Configure how Firefox connects to the Internet
  • Step 2: And then output a new windows[Connection setting ], In the Configure proxies to access the internet choose the Manual proxy configuration and then input HTTP Proxy : rpa.lib.ncku.edu.tw OR proxy.lib.ncku.edu.twPort:3128 → Click [OK]
  • Step 3: After completing setup, open a new window of the internet browser and a pop-up will appear. See below

    Type in user faculty/student/staff ID number and library password, and wait for verification. Once verified, user can begin accessing the electronic resources from outside of campus
Google Chrome Browser Setting
  • Step 1: 【Tools】→ Select【Options】
  • Step 2: 【Under the Hood】→ Select【Change proxy settings】
  • Step 3: Select【Tools】→【Internet Options】→ Select【Connections】tab. → Click [LAN settings]
  • Step 4: Under Proxy serve → Mark【Use a proxy server ... 】→ Input Proxy server address: rpa.lib.ncku.edu.tw OR proxy.lib.ncku.edu.twPort:3128 → Click [OK]
  • Step 5: Click [Refresh] on the Standard Buttons toolbar →When window is pop up, input User Name and Password → Click [OK]
Apple Safari Browser Setting
  • Step 1: 【Tools】→ Select【Preferences】
  • Step 2: Select【Advanced】tab →【Proxies】→ Select【Change settings】
  • Step 3: elect【Tools】→【Internet Options】→ Select【Connections】tab. → Click [LAN settings]
  • Step 4: Under Proxy serve → Mark【Use a proxy server ... 】→ Input Proxy server address: rpa.lib.ncku.edu.tw OR proxy.lib.ncku.edu.twPort:3128 → Click [OK]
  • Step 5: Click [Refresh] on the Standard Buttons toolbar →When window is pop up, input User Name and Password → Click [OK]
Rules for Using Off-campus Access Proxy:
  • The service must be limited to current NCKU faculties, staffs and students.
  • This service is for accessing web-based resources subscribed by the University Library. When you finish using these resources, please cancel the proxy settings or reset to the original settings.
  • Enter your faculty/student/staff ID Number and Password as requested.
    • ID / Password :
      • ID:the account number is your ID number at NCKU.
      • Password: the password is the same as the Cheng-Kung Portal.
    • NCKU Hospital staff :
      • ID:the account number is four zeros (0000) followed by your Identification number.
      • Password:the default password is the last 4-digit number of your National ID or Passport followed by the last four digits of your birthday (MMDD - e.g. enter 0104 for Jan 4th)
        reset your password or forgot your password
  • When you finished the setting but still couldn’t access to the proxy, please check your IP. If your IP is not 140.116.207.86 , please recheck the setting.
  • If you have any problem using this Proxy, please send an e-mail to libref@libmail.lib.ncku.edu.tw and note the following information,
    • Readers’ ID ( If your want the library staff to test your account, please provide your password)
    • The browser you used
    • When did the problem happen?
    • Describe the problem in detail
    • Have you ever used this proxy with any problem?
  • Please read the information of each database in the E-Resources Gateway to check whether the database can be accessed through off-campus.
