To continuously enhance the user experience, National Cheng Kung University Library launched its space renovation project in 2014, with the first two phases completed on December 16, 2020, and April 2, 2024. This current phase (Phase 3) focuses on upgrading the Donated Books Section on the 4th floor and the study carrels on the 5th floor.
The 4th floor is designated primarily for quiet reading. Therefore, the renovation plan for the Donated Books Section will transform the current bookshelf area into a space that better suits the needs of our readers. By providing multi-functional seating and reading spaces, we aim to create an immersive environment that offers both a sense of privacy and comfort, encouraging deeper concentration and thought.
The study carrels on the 5th floor were originally established to serve faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students working on theses. However, as the facilities have been in use for a long time, the existing configuration no longer meets current usage needs. This project will completely renovate the carrels' space and facilities, creating a higher-quality environment more suitable for research and focused thinking while still meeting academic requirements.
Building on the principles of Phases 1 and 2—"flexibility, diversity, comfort, and suitability for reading"—the Phase 3 renovation will continue to meet the expectations of our readers and society through professional planning and design. The National Cheng Kung University Library is committed to using space revitalization to fulfill its social responsibility, enhance the academic communication environment, and constantly create new and diverse value.
